Fast, On-Site Checks for Skin Concerns
If you have a mole or spot that looks unusual or has changed recently, please see our skin cancer doctor. At Derrimut Superclinic, our experienced GPs perform skin biopsies on-site, so you don’t need to travel or wait for a specialist appointment.
Skin cancer checks are fully bulk billed, but fees would apply if biopsy is required. Please refer to our Private Fees page.
What Is a Skin Biopsy?
A skin biopsy is a minor procedure that involves removing a small sample of skin tissue for testing. It’s commonly used to check for: A) Skin cancers including melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, B) Unusual moles or changing spots, C) Chronic rashes, infections, or unexplained skin conditions.
We perform different types of biopsies depending on the area and concern:
- Punch biopsy – a small, round section is removed with a special tool
- Shave biopsy – a thin layer of skin is shaved from the surface
- Excision biopsy – the entire lesion is removed for full examination
Before the biopsy, your doctor will explain the process, answer your questions including cost.
